As many of you who follow me on Twitter and Facebook know – Cookbook Author and all around Vegan Goddess Sarah Kramer has been both an incredible influence and inspiration to me and our book Betty Goes Vegan but I also think of her as a friend. We’ve been emailing for about 3 years now and she has been a constant source in my life of wisdom, guidance and kindness. We’ve bonded over The Go-Gos, our health, our marriages, tattoos, clothes, blogging, being vegans in the 80s and 90s and have shared a lot over these magical series of tubes.

We were supposed to have a book event at her shop Sarah’s Place this spring but as many of you also probably also know Sarah was diagnosed with breast cancer. There was a hope we would be able to reschedule for the fall but it looks like cancer is living up to it’s famous reputation for being a stone cold jerk. Sarah’s Place is closing it’s doors.

Although I can’t say Sarah and I go out to coffee like grrrlfriends or have gotten a chance to bake cookies together (yet) – she was one of the first people to write me when I lost Piper and one of the only people I talked or even emailed about it with for a few months. I’ve never had a big sister and until I met Sarah I never knew how much I would appreciate having someone like that in my life. I am so grateful to have someone like Sarah in my life and am happy to hear she is taking care of herself because the world is so much better with her in it.

I can’t cure cancer but I can help Sarah sell out her stock so she can close the doors of Sarahs Place and focus on her upcoming chemo. That’s where you all come in. She has 11 copies of Betty Goes Vegan in particular that I would love to see her get out the door!
